Relax or play, explore your own way

There’s plenty to discover across North Cornwall, whether you’re planning an active day or taking things at your own pace.

Head to nearby Widemouth Bay for a beach walk, a surf or a swim, or follow the South West Coast Path for sweeping sea views. Bude’s beaches and sea pool are a little further along the coast, while countryside walks begin closer to the hut.

Explore North Cornwall’s towns, pubs and restaurants at your own pace. For a day out further afield, hire bikes and cycle the Camel Trail before coming home to put your feet up.

Coastal towns and timeless tales.

Choose Widemouth Bay for a sweep of sand and surf, Crackington Haven for its cove beneath dramatic cliffs, or Trebarwith Strand for rock pools and sand revealed at low tide. In Bude, wander the harbour and independent shops, then visit Summerleaze, its sea pool and Crooklets. Browse local crafts and pick up artisan produce for a picnic or supper under the stars.

There are stories along the coast, too. Explore Boscastle’s sheltered National Trust harbour and the village’s recovery from the 2004 flood; discover the legends of Tintagel Castle, cared for by English Heritage; or wander Port Isaac’s lanes, familiar from Doc Martin and home to the Fisherman’s Friends.

Watch the fishing boats in Padstow, where the catch of the day can mean anything from fish and chips to Rick Stein’s seafood restaurants or Michelin-starred dining. Take the ferry across to Rock, browse the harbour and galleries of St Ives, or trade sea views for garden paths at RHS Rosemoor in Devon.
